Настоящее двухтомное издание содержит материалы пленарных, устных и стендовых докладов Второй Международной конференции "Химия и биологическая активность кислород- и серусодержащих гетероциклов", организованной компанией InterBioScreen Ltd., Фондом "Научное партнерство" при участии и поддержке Российской Академии наук и Комитета по науке и технологиям при Правительстве г. Москвы.
Конференция продолжает цикл научных форумов "Химия и биологическая активность синтетических и природных соединений". С приветственными словами к участникам 2-ой Международной конференции обратились два нобелевских лауреата: проф. Elias J.Corey (Гарвардский университет, США) и проф. Ryoji Noyori (университет Нагойя, Япония). В числе приглашенных пленарных докладчиков - проф. А.Катрицкий (Университет Флориды, США), проф. Р.Хьюзген (Мюнхенский Университет, Германия), проф. Х. ван дер Плас (Вагенингенский Университет, Голландия), проф. Я.Бергман (Королевский Институт, отделение Органической химии, Новум, Швеция), лекции которых публикуются отдельным изданием, а также видные ученые Англии, Бельгии, Германии, Греции, Индии, Италии, Нидерландов, США, Швеции и других стран.
В Сборник вошли оригинальные работы по химии и биологической активности O- и S-содержащих гетероциклов, охватывающие большое многообразие гетероциклов от оксиранов и тииранов до сложных конденсированных систем синтетического и природного происхождения. В ряде работ особое внимание уделено биологической активности и другим аспектам практического использования O- и S-гетероциклов, что делает издание полезным не только для химиков-синтетиков, но и для биохимиков, фармакологов и медицинских химиков.
Согласно начатой в предыдущем Сборнике традиции, в последний раздел издания включены описания
наиболее интересных методов синтеза и модификации гетероциклов, разработанных учеными СНГ
и стран Балтии за последние годы.
